Advent 3: Art and Faith

This week we listened to another reading about John the Baptist, we see a very different picture of John who is calling out to prepare a way for the Lord, he speaks of baptising with water, but explains that someone (Jesus) will be coming after him.

There are images within this painting which hint at the one who will come, the cross a sign of Jesus who would come to save us by dying on the cross and rising again.

Readings for Sunday Advent 4
Samuel 7: 1-5, 8-12, 14-16 The kingdom of David will always stand secure before the Lord
Psalm 88: I will sing forever of your love, O Lord
Letter of Paul to the Romans 16: 25-27 The mystery which was kept secret for endless ages, is now made clear.
Alleliua, alleuia I am the handmaid of the Lord: let what you have said be done to me, Alleliua

As we move towards the final Sunday of Advent which this year is followed the next day by the feast of Christmas we hardly have time to think about those words of Mary, we too are called to service of the Lord and one another, we are called to things we may find difficult, may we be given the strength and grace to follow Mary's example.  We'll post the video on Friday so you have time to reflect.
