Called by name

Today in children's liturgy we listened to people being called by God.  In the old testament, we heard about Samuel, who said 'Here I am Lord'  In our Gospel we heard Jesus being called the 'Lamb of God' and later he not only called the disciples to follow him, but gave Simon and new name Cephas which means Peter which means rock on which he would build his Church.

The children were reminded that they have all been called by name ... but what do some of our names mean.  As we lit our candle and remembered that Jesus was with us as the light of the world, we talked about the meaning of one of our group who is called Lumen meaning light. See below for meaning of our names.
Annabelle - Graceful
Elizabeth - oath (promise) of God
Gabrela - Woman of God
Howard  - noble watchman
Mable - beautiful and loving
Mason - worker in stone
Maria - linked to Myriam, wished for child and sea of sorrow
Michael - who is like God

It interesting to find out what our name means, but even more important for us to listen like Samuel, to hear what we are being called to do.
Why not find out what your name mean?  and What you are being called to do?
