In case you missed the news, both schools were awarded School of Sanctuary status: two our of only three schools in Lancashire have achieved this award so far. In order to be recognised as a School of Sanctuary, the schools had to go through rigorous inspections to ensure that all appropriate requirements are being met.  Those requirements include:

  • creating a sense of safety and inclusion for all
  • developing understanding of what it means to seek sanctuary
  • dispeling negative myths
  • providing learning opportunities around human rights, social justice, diversity and interdependence
  • strengthening race equality and community cohesion work
  • increasing student voice and promote active citizenship
  • augmenting work to attain Stephen Lawrence Education Standard or other inclusion award initiatives
  • providing evidence to meet Ofsted expectations for high educational achievement for refugee and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.
Congratulations to both schools, we look forward to sharing some of their developments over the coming months.
