The Chair of St Peter, Apostle

St Peter, Lancaster Cathedral
St Peter's statue dressed
for today's feast day

At the entrance to Lancaster Cathedral, which is dedicated to St Peter, we have our own statue modeled on the one in St Peter's Rome

There is a great tradition of statues being dressed for their feast days; here is the famous statue of St Peter adorned with a red cope and papal tiara.

For a short explanation of this feast day, listen to Chair of St Peter short audio

The chair is a symbol of St Peter's teaching authority.  In each Cathedral there is a Cathedra which is the symbol in the Mother Church of the authority of the Bishop.
