Novena to the Holy Spirit: Day 1

Holy Spirit, Lancaster Cathedral

A novena is when either an individual or group say prayers for nine days for a special intention. The nine days reminds us of how the disciples spent nine days in the upper room after Jesus ascended to heaven whilst they waited for the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. For more information about the history of novenas click here

Each day we will include a prayer, music or video connected with the Holy Spirit, for a copy of a novena to the Holy Spirit click here

Day 1: Creation awaits fulfilment
Holy Spirit, Lord of light!
From Your clear celestial height,
Your pure' beaming radiance give!

Almighty and eternal God, send forth Your Spirit, who brought order from chaos at
the beginning of the universe, and peace to the Lord's disciples.

Grant that I, as your creation, baptized in your Spirit, may be filled with the seven
gifts so that I may forever do your will and renew the face of the earth. Amen.

Please keep our young people in your prayers

There are seven young people in our parish who are in the final days of preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Last night they met with Fr Stewart to talk about the saints they have chosen and why they want to be confirmed.  In the coming days we will take a look at what they have been doing, hear more about some of the Saints whose names they will take, and remember them as we join in nine days of prayer to the Holy Spirit.
