Celebration Mass - 27th June

Bernadette May (My Lord and My God - Co-ordinator)
and Fr Stewart presenting certificates
On Wednesday 27th June families involved in our sacramental preparation programmes of St Peter's Way and My Lord and My God gathered at St Thomas More to celebrate at Mass and a shared party afterwards.  Fr Stewart asked if children had received gifts for their First Holy Communion and Confirmation.  He reminded them that these sacraments were the greatest gifts, Eucharist where they had received Jesus' Body and Blood, and Confirmation where gifts of the Holy Spirit received at Baptism were renewed.  At the end of Mass, Children and young people received certificates and photographs of their big day and details of the activities they had taken part in to prepare to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.

At the end of Mass Fr Stewart thanked the catechists for their hard work in helping to prepare young people for the sacraments.  Special thanks were given to Kath Law who has been a member of the Holy Communion team for nearly 20 years.  Kath will be remembered by many of the young people in our parish as someone who has willingly shared her faith and given of her time and God given talents to travel with others on their faith journey.  This is a role she will continue by helping with the hospital chaplaincy team.
There are many ways each of us can use our God given talents.  This year the confirmation young people have all been given £5 and asked to try and increase this, like in the parable of the talents.  As noted in the bulletin, Jack Nicholls has already held a cake sale and raised £50 which he gave to Fr Stewart for the church heating fund.  Others have plans for activities during the summer, we'll feature details of others over the coming months.
There are lots of ways in which people contribute to the life of the parish family - over the summer we'll be featuring some behind the scene accounts of what people do.
