A busy weekend: Tables

Altar: Lancaster Cathedral, Children's Liturgy, Altar prepared for
Extraordinary Form and Cathedral Table Top
As we said earlier in the week, this weekend is going to be a busy one. All events have a table involved, however, these are quite different tables.
All welcome to join us.

Holy Hour: On Friday 21st September, the eve of John's ordination there will be a Holy Hour at St Joseph's, Skerton at 7.00 to 8.00 for vocations and priests.  All welcome.
Please continue to pray for John and his family

Ordination: The altar
On Saturday morning we have John Millar's ordination, when he will be ordained a priest and begin his ministry to offer the sacrifice of the Mass at the altar, that reminds us of the table Jesus sat round with his friends at the Last Supper.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church CCC says:
Bishop Michael Campbell celebrating Mass
at Lancaster Cathedral
CCC 1383 The altar, around which the Church is gathered in the celebration of the Eucharist, represents the two aspects of the same mystery: the altar of the sacrifice and the table of the Lord. This is all the more so since the Christian altar is the symbol of Christ himself, present in the midst of the assembly of his faithful, both as the victim offered for our reconciliation and as food from heaven who is giving himself to us. "For what is the altar of Christ if not the image of the Body of Christ?" asks St. Ambrose. He says elsewhere, "The altar represents the body [of Christ] and the Body of Christ is on the altar." The liturgy expresses this unity of sacrifice and communion in many prayers.
Children's Liturgy: Focal Table
We gather to listen to God's word around a focal table which is always covered with colours of the Church season - on Sunday this will be green because we are in ordinary time.  We welcome children to join us - for more information about children's liturgy click here.

Altar prepared for Mass Extraordinary Form
On the fourth Sunday of the month there is an extra Mass at 12.15am, this is the extraordinary form.  More about this next month.
