Happy Birthday Mary

Our Lady, Lancaster Cathedral: Te Deum window
Today we celebrate Mary’s birthday. When children are born today there are often lots of photos taken, we don't have any photos, but can still imagine what Mary's parents Saints Anne and Joachim must have felt like on the day their daughter was born and how they celebrated her birthday as she grew up.

How will you celebrate Mary's birthday this year?
Grotto at Cleator

  • Go on pilgrimage: Some members of the parish are joining others from around the Lancaster Diocese on pilgrimage to St Mary's and St Joseph's of Cleator and Frizington.  Tomorrow Canon Stephen, Dean of the Cathedral will celebrate Mass at the Grotto at 3.00pm.  Hopefully, news and photos in the week ahead.
  • Launch a new website!: today the parish launches another blog that will focus on events and activities linked to the Year of Faith. Click here for new blog, which will be listed in the links on the right. We will now begin to countdown to the start of the Year of Faith that begins on 11th October 2012.
Over the next few weeks there will be a chance to read more about school visits, opportunities for young people, families and adults to learn more about their faith.

  • Have a special birthday tea: in honour of Our Lady remembering her when you say grace
  • Say a prayer: Start or finish the day with a Hail Mary, or decade of the rosary.
  • Lighting a candle: at church in front of the statue of Our Lady
