St Peter meets St Bernard of Clairvaux |
Sister Zela recently went on retreat (see below) to Hyning, which is the Bernadine of Esquermes convent just outside Silverdale. She took the keys of St Peter and they are displayed above next to a crucifix and picture of St Bernard of Clairvaux in the Hyning library.
Rather short notice, but the weekend, 21st - 23rd September there will be a Monastic Experience Weekend, open to anyone 18 - 35, male or female, for all those those who feel they are called to deepen their relationship with God and to serve him in some way. Please contact srmariavocations@yahoo.co.uk
Nuns at the Monastry of Our Lady of Hyning
The Bernardines of Esquermes are an order of
Cistercian nuns, who live according to the
Rule of St. Benedict, seeking God as a community in a spirit of prayer,
simplicity and silence. They welcome visitors to join them for Mass and as they pray throughout the day.
St Bernard and the Bernadines
The Bernadine name is linked to St Bernard of Clairvaux who played an important role in the early days of the Cistercians, he was to become the Abott (the monk in charge) of a monastry in Clairvaux.
Esquermes, near Lille in France, is a small village where three nuns settled in 1827 to live following the Cistercian way of life. In 1936 they made more formal link with the Cistercian order, and in 1955 the Church recognised the Bernadines of Esquermes as an order of Cistertian nuns. If anyone would be willing to share something of their experience of going on retreat please get in touch - you can either leave information with one of the priests of use our contact form.
