Epiphany - Gifts of gold, frankincense, myrrh and LOVE

The McCafferty family join the new arrival of the wise men
at the crib to say a prayer before Mass
All nations shall bow before you O Lord
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, we hear how wise men from the east came, no doubt representing the nations, 'to fall prostrate before you O Lord' (response to the psalm).  Many have been taking the opportunity to visit the crib, to say a prayer and reflect on what the crib reminds us of - a gift of love which is given to us today. Epiphany
In his sermon Canon Stephen spoke of how epiphany is one of many times when Jesus shows God's love for us.  The word “epiphany” comes from the Greek epiphainen, a verb that means "to shine upon," “to make known,” "to manifest," or "to show."  Although we often think of the gifts the wise men brought to Jesus - gold, frankincense and myrrh - these are nothing when compared to God's gift of his Son - a true gift of love.  We of course through our baptism are called to show this love in our lives.

Following the star to visit Jesus
After Mass children gathered to capture what gifts they would give to God, they then processed like the wise men, following the star and placed their gifts at the crib and said a prayer thanking God for his gift of love.

Epiphany prayer
O God who by a star guided the wise men to the worship of Your Son, we pray You to lead to Yourself the wise and great of every land that unto You every knee may bow, and every thought by brought into captivity through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
