Today family, friends, Ursulines from around the country, parishioners all joined with Sr Zela Proctor who celebrated her 50th Anniversary of when she made her solemn profession.
As Fr Stewart pointed out 50 years is a long time! and so it is not surprising that throughout the evening there were many tributes for Sr Zela who has brought love of the Lord to so many. Fr Andrew Allman who gave the homily reminded us of the reading and how Elijah had found God in the gentle breeze. He spoke of the gentle evening breeze with the sun setting on a day well spent and an evening of friendship and relaxation still to come and compared this to Sr Zela's life as an Ursuline with many memories for her and us all to share and the promise of things yet to come.
Sr Zela with the sun shining upon her as she renewed her vows and the shadow of a cross. The shadow is quite apt, not only does it links in with one of eight quotes from St Angela that feature on cards commemorating her Golden Jubilee, but gives us a clue as to one of the reasons for her capacity to share the love of the Lord.
Sr Zela was delighted to receive amongst the many cards and good wishes a wonderful mosaic created by the children attending Children's Liturgy with a clue to the Gospel reading John 15: 4-17.
After Mass, Sr Maureen said a few words about some of the many things Sr Zela has done in her life. She also told us how she had been asked to be Zela's 'guardian angel' when she first joined the novitiate over 50 years ago.
It seems no time at all when Sr Maureen celebrated her Golden Jubilee to remind yourself of that celebration.

A closing prayer of thanksgiving
God of love, in this joyful anniversary may our Sister Zela advance happily on that journey which began in you and leads to you. Amen.
