Advent 2 - A time of Peace

Advent 2: Peace
Dear Father, help us to remember we are part of God’s family. We are here to help one another. Help us as we journey through advent to prepare a way for the Lord.  Let there be peace shared amongst us.  Amen

Ambo and Advent Wreath at Lancaster Cathedral
Today we light the second purple candle.  Due to the statues of Mary and the Sacred  Heart having been moved for the Year of Faith this year the photo of the Advent Wreath has Mary looking on, very fitting as tomorrow we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Mary's yes is an example for each of us, and the reading Luke 1:26-38 which ends with the words ‘let what you have said be done to me.’ And the angel left her. May we be given the courage to say yes when the Lord calls us to do things which may seem impossible, remembering the angels words that nothing is impossible with God.

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Tomorrow the Drop in spirituality session at St Thomas More's Monday 9th December will include a reflection and lectio divina (sacred reading) on the gospel of Luke which reminds us of the Annunciation.  This is the reading where we hear of how Mary responds to God's call, delivered by the message of the Angel Gabriel.
