This year we were able to capture the fire used to light the Paschal Candle bringing warmth and light in the darkness.
Outside the Bishop placed five studs of incense into the cross to represent the five wounds of Christ. He then lights the Paschal Candle from the fire. For a short video clip of the lighting of the candle in 2014
Deacon Jim then processed into the Cathedral calling out 'Lumen Christi' (Christ our Light) to which the congregation replied 'Deo Gratias' (Thanks be to God).
The Paschal Candle was then placed in its stand and Jim sang the Exsultet, for those who missed this great Easter greeting you can listen to the Exsultet here.
The Paschal candle will be lit at every Mass during the Easter season until we celebrate the feast of Pentecost, when Bishop Michael Campbell will return to confirm young people of the Deanery.
