Palm Sunday - Sing Hosanna

Blessing the Palms with Holy Water
Today we celebrate Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode through the city of Jerusalem with the crowds crying out Hosanna and waving palms.  Mass started outside with a short reading and blessing of the palms.  Then we sang, All Glory Laud and Honor ... as we processed into the Cathedral.

'Jesus' waving to the people
Key Stage 2 children from school stayed in church to help read the passion, representing the crowd. Meanwhile Key Stage 1 children went through for their own liturgy.  We focused today on singing Hosanna to the King of Kings as we waved our palms.

Today's focal area: bread and 'wine', a bowl of water and a towel
a lighted candle, crucifix and the Bible ...
Listening to the story of the Last Supper
Then we remembered Jesus' special meal - where he washed his disciples feet, and then shared a meal of bread and wine - and asked his disciples to do the same in remembrance of him.  These important moments in our Lord's life we remember on Thursday at the Mass of the Lord's Supper, when parishioners will have their feet washed by Bishop Michael as a sign of service, and when we will remember that night when Jesus took bread and wine and told the disciples 'This is my Body ... This is my Blood'.  We'll share more pictures in the week.
Washing feet as a sign of service
On Friday there will be Children's Liturgy when the children will journey with Jesus and meet Simon, Veronica and his mother Mary who he met as he carried his cross.  Parents please bring children to the corridor leading to Children's Liturgy at 2.50 before you go into church.
