Old Testament stone for New Testament bread

Old Testament stone for New Testament bread

On Sunday evening at 6.30, Bishop Paul Swarbrick celebrated Mass and offered an additional opportunity for confession after Mass.

In his homily, amongst many points, he made a useful connection for us with the old and new testament and our reading from 1st Sunday of Lent and today's first reading from book of Exodus.

The reading from Exodus was about the 10 commandments, which we read were printed on stone - and represent the Old Testament.  Jesus was tempted in the desert to turn stones into bread. Whilst he wasn't tempted to do this, at the Last Supper he did give to us the Eucharist where the bread and wine become his Body and Blood. So the New Testament sign being not stone but bread.  So stone of the Old Testament being replaced in the New Testament bread.
