May is month of Mary

Mary and Jesus,
situated in Cathedral House
May is traditionally the month when we remember Mary.  In 1965 Pope Paul VI wrote an encyclical (letter) entitled Mense Maio - Month of May which includes a call to pray for peace.  In this letter he explains:
Since Mary is rightly to be regarded as the way by which we are led to Christ, the person who encounters Mary cannot help but encounter Christ likewise. For what other reason do we continually turn to Mary except to seek the Christ in her arms, to seek our Savior in her, through her, and with her?

May has traditionally been a month when we pray to Mary and there are often May processions.  Talk to you Mum or Dad, grandparents or Godparents and ask them about May processions they may remember from their childhood. For details of a May procession held at the Cathedral Primary school in 2008 click here

Children may like to draw a picture or write a prayer to bring to show at Children's Liturgy.

During May we'll be posting pictures, prayers and further details about Mary.
