Sun - Fog - Transfiguration

James Tissot
Jesus goes up a mountain to pray
This week the weather has in some ways given us a small physical sense of the Gospel reading of the Transfiguration that we will listen to this Sunday, Luke 9:28-43 what the apostles Peter, James and John experienced when they went on a walk up the mountain with Jesus.

The bright sunshine providing a bright light to warm us and encourage us to take time to see the signs of new life beginning to appear all around us. For the apostles Jesus was transfigured they saw his glory as 'the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white'.

The fog that came down and surrounded us, was such a contrast to our sunny days, it came suddenly, creating uncertainty about what was hidden there in the mist. For the apostles they found that,  'a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” Luke 9:34-35

Whatever the weather, Lent is a time when we can spend time listening to what the Lord maybe telling us.
