In the Gospel on the 2nd Sunday of Advent we hear of John the Baptist preaching to the people to prepare a way for the Lord. This painting by Peter Bruegel a flemish artist shows the crowds gathering to listen to John. This short video is part of the Loyola Arts and Faith series and tells us more about the meaning of this picture.

Psalm 84:9-10, 11-12, 13-14
Let us see O Lord your mercy and give us your saving help
I will hear what God proclaims;
the LORD—for he proclaims peace to his people.
Near indeed is his salvation to those who fear him,
glory dwelling in our land.
Kindness and truth shall meet;
justice and peace shall kiss.
Truth shall spring out of the earth,
and justice shall look down from heaven.
The LORD himself will give his benefits;
our land shall yield its increase.
Justice shall walk before him,
and prepare the way of his steps.
