Solemn Exposition

Monstance
In the past few years we have held quarantore (forty hours) exposition of the Blessed Sacrament to coincide with the Feast of Corpus Christi (Body of Christ).  This year, at the start of the academic year when many will return to school, college or university, and all adjust to the shorter - cooler days and the arrival of autumn, and the parish prepares for changes arising from the Ursulines moving south to join their community - it is fitting we have a parish time of prayer.
We will have solemn exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, where the Blessed Sacrament is exposed in a Monstrance (which means to show) Rather than quanrantore we will have about 24 hours, a whole day of prayer for individual needs and parish intentions. So from:
  • Friday 18th September starting at 9.00 am with a break for 12.15 Mass and continuing to 6.00pm when there will be Benediction
  • Saturday 19th September starting at 9.00am with a break for 12.15 Mass and continuing to 6.30pm evening Mass,
  • Sunday 20th September starting after 10.30am Mass and finishing with vespers (evening prayer) and Benediction
There are sheets at the back of the Cathedral for people to sign up to make sure there will be someone there all the time.  Even if you can't come for a long time, why not pop in after school, or on the way from work or to the shops.
