Feast of Candlemas and Song of Simeon
Today we celebrate the feast of Candlemas. It marks the time when Joseph and Mary took Jesus to the Temple. There they met Simeon and Anna. Simeon sang a song of praise which is known as the Nunc Dimittis (Luke 2: 29-32) and is prayed every day as part of the Churches Night Prayer.
At last all-powerful Master, you give leave to your servant to go in peace according to your promise.
For my eyes have seen your salvation which you have prepared for all nations, the light to enlighten the Gentiles and give glory to Israel, your people.
