Prayer for Family Fast Day

A prayer for tomorrow's Family Fast Day and one of the many harvest prayers from the Cafod website helping us to pray this harvest time.

Harvest 2021 photograph CAFOD

Walk beside us, Lord, in the cool of the day, in the garden you have created as
our common home.

Walk beside us, Lord, as the cries of the forest pierce the dawn, and flames rip through
our common home.

Grant us courage, Lord, as we walk beside all those who struggle to protect
our common home.

Grant us hope, Lord, and the vision to walk dark paths in the light of a single sunbeam.

Grant us grace, Lord, to put the flourishing of all people and the wonder of your creation
at the heart of all we do, as we strive to be guardians
of our common home.

St Francis, pray for us.

Harvest Family Fast ... coming soon

Since the start of September we have been thinking about the season of creation. Pope Francis says we are a single family living in a common home and yet we hear on the news that there are things we do that are damaging our world. Our common home. God’s creation.

This year's appeal gives us all a chance to think what we can do to protect our planet. Our common home. God’s creation. On Friday 1st October we are asked to think about ways we can support Cafod's Family Fast appeal.  Over the coming week we will share ideas and provide information for why and how we can get involved including Go Green for our families and meals from around the world, prayers from harvest,

Season of Creation dates

Season of Creation

Why do we celebrate the season of creation at this time of year? The season starts on the 1st September when Orthodox Christians celebrate the Feast of the Creation of the World, and Christians celebrate the end of the season on the Feast of St Francis of Assisi.

Pope Francis encourages us to consider what we might do to celebrate this season.

Sacredness of life #Live laudato Si

What aspect of God's creation fills you with awe and wonder.  As we marvel at the wonders of our common home, Pope Saint John Paul II reminds us that:

Faced with the sacredness of life and the human person, and before the marvels of the universe, wonder is the only appropriate attitude.

Learn from wonder #Live LaudatoSi

Throughout the season of creation we will post some images and quotes as an aid to helping us all reflect on the wonders of our common home.

Learn from wonder, nurture astonishment.
Live, love, believe. And, with the grace of God, never despair, Pope Francis

Season of Creation

Today is the first day of the season of creation. It begins on the 1st September the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation and ends on 4 October, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology.

This year, the Season of Creation comes just a few weeks before the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), scheduled to take place from November 1-12 in Glasgow, Scotland.

To learn more about this season which we will be sharing information about throughout the month.
