Bishop Paul Swarbrick celebrates Holy Mass for the first week of Advent.

As we start the new church year, we begin with the season of Advent a season of Hope. We light the first candle on our Advent wreath and are encouraged in our Gospel to 'stay awake' and 'stay alert'.

Bishop Paul reminds us to stay awake not only for ourselves so we can be with the Lord, but for others.  He shares a story of parents watching and staying awake by the bedside of a sick child so that they were staying awake for another.  A reminder of staying awake in our faith.

Next week for those unable to get to church there will be an opportunity to watch the video for Mass at 10.30 on Zoom with others, and then stay on to 'have coffee' and a parish catch up.  If you are interested in joining then please send email amhcathedral@googlemail.com 

Bishop Paul Swarbrick celebrates Mass of Feast of Christ the King

Bishop Paul Swarbrick Bishop of Lancaster is joined by Fr Steven Pearson and Fr John-Paul Evans and Deacon Jim Woods celebrates Mass for the Feast of Christ the King. In his sermon Bishop Paul encourages us to think about our young people on this feast which is dedicated as youth Sunday.

Children's Liturgy and Mass

* Children's Liturgy 
Last weekend some of the catechists and families joined the online Children's Liturgy organised by CAFOD.  This brought together families from across the country and was led by three catechists each with their own children, who shared the Gospel of Jesus healing the Blind Man.  Watch Recording of 4th Sunday in Lent CAFOD Children's Liturgy

You will need to register to attend, but its quite simple and allows you to enter ideas that the children share which the liturgists read some of them out, it would be great if they read one from someone from our parish. Register for virtual children's liturgy We will post the recording for those who aren't able to join. 


* Online Masses
If you have access to the internet, there are several websites that carry ‘live streaming’ of mass from churches around the world. 
There is one church within our own Diocese– Christ the Good Shepherd, Workington - Sunday at 10.30am is the online Mass
Some other websites that stream masses are : Church Services TV  Catholic TV and a page from Aid to the Church in Need with links to online Masses and copy of Spiritual Communion.

* Sharing your experiences

St Peter's Keys visiting St Joseph's and English Martrys

On Sunday, 4th Sunday of Lent, which is also known as Latare Sunday, one of our parishioners attended the online Mass at Catholic Parish of Bishop's Stortford, St Joseph's and the English Martyrs in the Westminster Diocese. 

Mass was celebrated by Fr Carlos Quito who welcomed parishioners and people from around the world joining him for Mass.  We listened to the readings including the Gospel of Jesus healing the blind man after that he shared a pastoral letter from Cardinal Vincent Nicholls (see the video which covered some of the same messages). He closed Mass with a special blessing for Mothers and finished with the Angelus.

Above the altar on the marble arch it says Copiosa apud eum redemptio (With him is plentiful redemption)

As we visit churches around the country offering online Mass it is a chance for us to see inside those Churches and by visiting their websites learn more about what they do. Tomorrow we share a special Beatitudes for all those healthcare professionals and for those who are looking after someone who is sick at the moment.
