Our Weekly Mission

This week ... news from our Primary School

Every Monday, Mrs Holt leads the school in reflecting on Sunday’s Gospel which informs our ‘Mission of the Week’. This week, our mission is to ‘listen to others’ and children who are spotted doing this particularly well will become our stars of the week on Friday.

CCP: Remembrance Tree

During November, the children and staff have been remembering and praying for our loved ones who have died. All the children have decorated a leaf and on it, written the names of people they know who have died. These leaves have been placed on our ‘Tree of Remembrance’ for November.  CD

CCP: Class Mass and St Leo the Great.

Class Mass and St Leo the Great

This week, pupils at Cathedral Catholic Primary School enjoyed spending time with Father Steve who celebrated Mass with the Year 6 children and teachers in their classroom on the feast of St Leo the Great. Father Steve told the children all about the life of St Leo and what we can learn from him. It is wonderful to celebrate the Sacrament of the Eucharist in school and we appreciate the time our priests give us to help us prepare and celebrate this important part of our faith.

To learn more about Pope St Leo the Great you may want to watch the following short video which includes some words which seem very apt as COP 26 comes to an end and we take time to think about what we can do to see the wonders of creation.

From a sermon by St Leo the Great given on Christmas day:
Rouse yourself and recognise the dignity of your nature remember that you were made in God's image, use creatures as they should be used, the earth, the sea, the sky, the air, the springs and the rivers give praise and glory to their creator for all that you find beautiful and wonderful within them.

He says we should see not just with our physical eyes but with eyes of our soul.

Season of Creation and COP26

Last half term, we celebrated the Season of Creation in school by reflecting on the beauty of our world and how we can look after and protect it.

The children learnt about ‘Laudato Si’, the second encyclical (letter) of Pope Francis, and suggested practical ways we can look after our common home. Following this, children in Years 4 and 5 wrote letters to Boris Johnson to urge him to use COP26 to work with world leaders to take positive actions to tackle the climate crisis. We now hope and pray that COP26 is successful in initiating action to protect our planet and particularly the lives of the poorest and most vulnerable communities. CD
